The itinerary
Then head to the thriving city of Naples to view the city's Gallery of Umberto I and the San Carlo Opera House before moving on to nearby Pompeii to check out the local craftsmanship as well as explore the ancient part of the town that was affected by Mount Vesuvius' volcanic eruption. Round out your trip by exploring sun-kissed beaches and stunning coastal villages including Sorrento, Positano, and the Island of Capri. This package contains all of the ingredients for a trip to remember!
DAY 01: ROME
Transfer from the airport to Rome's city center where you will check in to your hotel. You can spend the rest of the day exploring the city at your leisure, or just sit back and relax from the flight. Dinner on your own this evening.
Day 02: ROME
A buffet style breakfast is provided at your hotel then enjoy a 3 hour walking tour with an English speaking guide to discover Rome’s monuments. The tour will start from Largo di Torre Argentina which is the famous square in Rome featuring four Republican temples. As the tour continues, travelers will walk to the famous “Field of Flowers” Square or Campo de’ Fiori. From there, the tour continues to Piazza Farnese with its beautiful Renaissance buildings designed by famed architects. Piazza Navona comes next with a visit to the magnificent Fountain of the Four Rivers (Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi) followed by a memorable stop at the historic Pantheon, an ancient temple that was first constructed in the days of Augustus and today houses the final resting places of key historical figures including the artist Raphael and two kings of Italy. After leaving the Pantheon, the tour continues on to the breathtaking Trevi Fountain, which is the largest and most famous Baroque fountain in all of Italy. And finally the tour wraps up at the memorable Spanish Steps, which were featured in the classic movie, “Roman Holiday”. Afterwards, you are free to explore on your own or take part in another guided tour to visit some of Rome’s other famous landmarks such as the Colosseum or the Vatican with its famous museum complex and St. Peter’s Square. Dinner on your own and overnight stay at your hotel in the city center.
Day 03: ROME – NAPLES – POMPEII – SORRENTO
Meet in the early morning to travel to Naples by motor coach. Once in Naples, a local guide will lead you on a memorable walking tour of the city center with stops at the Piazza del Plebiscito, one of the largest squares in Naples, as well as the beautiful Royal Palace, the prestigious San Carlo Opera House and the architectural wonder of the Gallery of Umberto I with its wrought iron and glass ceiling. From Naples, you will continue on to the world famous Pompeii were you will enjoy a short visit to a factory that specializes in coral and cameos and then stop for lunch at an authentic restaurant that features recipes indicative of this region. Once lunch has concluded, the tour continues with a visit to the world renowned archeological site of Pompeii, which was covered in ash and rubble when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 A.D. After the historical visit to the Forgotten City, the tour proceeds to Sorrento, a magnificent town on the Sorrentine Peninsula that offers spectacular views of Mount Vesuvius, the Isle of Capri and Naples. It is also known the world over for its orange, lemon and olive trees. Enjoy a pleasant dinner before retiring for the night at your hotel in Sorrento.
Day 04: SORRENTO – CAPRI – SORRENTO
Enjoy a buffet breakfast at the hotel and then depart for the beautiful island of Capri, well-known around the world as a relaxing resort. You will travel by ferry to the Port of Marina Grande, with Mount Solaro poised beautifully in the backdrop. Weather and sea conditions permitting, you will have the opportunity to visit the Grotta Azzurra (Blue Grotto), which is a sea cave that is flooded with magnificent blue light as the sun’s rays hit the surface of the water. The next stop is the Augustus Gardens to experience tranquility and beauty at its best. Here, fabulous statues and beautiful blossoms share the spotlight. The Piazzetta is the next stop, often called one of the most fashionable squares in the world. A minibus will then take you up to Anacapri for a delightful lunch and beautiful view of the island. From Anacapri, you will return to the port of Marina Grande and board the ferry for the trip back to Sorrento. Time to relax during dinner and enjoy your last night at your hotel in Sorrento.
Day 05: SORRENTO – POSITANO
An American buffet breakfast is provided at the hotel with a morning departure to Positano. You will travel along the gorgeous roads of the Amalfi Coast before arriving in the charming and colorful town of Positano, where the Rolling Stones wrote their classic, “Midnight Rambler”. After checking in at the local hotel, you can explore the town at your leisure. Dinner on your own this evening and overnight stay at the hotel in Positano.
Day 06: POSITANO
After a buffet breakfast at the hotel, guests will have ample free time to discover the beauty of this wonderful coastal village and all that surrounds it. You may choose to take a local bus and visit Ravello, a small town known for its scenic beauty and the famous Villa Rufolo, or you could make your way to Amalfi to soak up the views of the beautiful cliffs and plunge into the tranquil waters of the Mediterranean Sea. (Optional activities not included). Dinner on your own and overnight stay at your hotel in Positano.
Day 07: POSITANO – POMPEII – ROME
Buffet breakfast is served at your hotel and then the morning is at your leisure to enjoy your last few hours in the Amalfi Coast. Spend some time sightseeing in the city center of Positano or perhaps shop for souvenirs in the small artisan shops and boutiques in town. Early in the afternoon the group will meet at the hotel and transfer to Pompeii before heading back to Rome. The estimated time of arrival in Rome is approximately 9.00 p.m., depending on traffic. Dinner at your leisure and then spend the night at your hotel in Rome's city center.
