Travel Guide and Information about Campania Italy Photo Gallery Sorrento And Amalfi Coast Capri Naples

This description page of Campania, region Of Italy, will guide you in planning your trip to Italy and help you to find useful travel information about this Italian Region.

Warm, welcoming, and mysterious, Campania is in many ways the heart of Italy. This is the land that offers you warm blue seas, some of Italy’s most dramatic coastline, a history both living and ancient, a sprinkling of magical islands, and sunsets that will stay with you forever.

The Amalfi Coast (Costiera Amalfitana), named after the town of Amalfi, was once a mighty Marine Republic that rivaled Pisa, Genoa, and Venice. Between Sorrento and Salerno, you’ll discover one of the most dramatic and beautiful coastlines in Europe—sheer cliffs drop into crystal blue waters—and charming towns like Amalfi and Positano perch perilously along the way. Discover lively fishing villages at the foot of steep cliffs and beautiful blue seas glimpsed through lemon trees.

Napoli, Campania Italy - Piazza PlebiscitoWith charismatic narrow streets overhung with endless rows of washing, ancient churches, a medieval university, noisy street markets, and hundreds of cafés, bars, and restaurants, Naples (Napoli) is an unforgettable experience. It is one of Europe’s most densely populated cities and is chaotic, overcrowded, noisy, and always uniquely charming.

Visit the summit of Mount Vesuvius, the ominous and still active volcano that looms over Naples (Napoli) and wiped out the towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum in 79 AD. Not to be missed are the remains of Pompeii and Herculaneum—you can even walk around the top of the crater! Pompeii was buried under a layer of burning pumice stone when the volcano erupted and the town remains preserved as it was on that fateful August morning. It provides the richest insight into Roman daily life in the world. The nearby town of Herculaneum was also destroyed and, like Pompeii, remains preserved today.

The Italian island of Capri is the stuff postcards are made of—bright blue water, craggy cliffs, white beaches, and lemon trees. You can catch a ferry from Naples (Napoli) or Sorrento to this gorgeous island getaway. In addition to the beaches, 'll find ancient ruins, grottoes, and churches. Experience dining at many of the island’s restaurants, while enjoying the breathtaking views of the sea.

Blessed with some of Ital's most dramatic coastline, unequalled Roman ruins, Pompeii, the most important archeological site anywhere in the world, the exciting cities of Naples (Napoli) and Sorrento, the island of Capri, the Costiera Amalfitana—names synonymous worldwide with natural beauty and spectacular scenery—Campania is one of the most enduringly popular regions in Italy.
